ASSESSMENTS

LEAN ON US

Shelters and rescues play a vital role in the protection and placement of abandoned dogs. The sheer volume of dogs seen in just a year is staggering. Given the math, there will be dogs that arrive with behavior issues that range from acute and modifiable to chronic and unsafe. Cooperation Canine is committed to the ethical handling of all dogs - especially ones struggling with intense emotional responses to their environments. These dogs are uniquely vulnerable.

We know people who form these organizations do so with the most noble intentions of saving homeless pets and when faced with a dog displaying behaviors of concern there is a lot of emotion, love, and insecurity that can come along with figuring out the best course of action. We would like to offer our knowledge and support in collaboration with groups who are working to help dogs that are currently on the margins of adoptability.

If there is a dog you or your team is unsure of, or are questioning whether behavior euthanasia is a justifiable outcome, please fill out the form below and we will contact you to discuss the specifics. We offer reduced rates and try to expedite appointments whenever possible. This also applies to other organization who may be assessing dogs in home where human children are being placed. Whatever your organizational situations, we look forward to partnering with you.

ASSESSMENTS - An evaluation of behaviors of concern. The dog(s) needing assessments can be in foster homes, in homes needing to relinquish the dog back to the rescue, or dogs that are being considered for transport. They may also be in the home of adoptive parents or human foster families.

  • These sessions usually take between 1 and 1.5 hours, depending on the case. If a written behavior plan is necessary, we will provide that within 7-10 business days post assessment.

  • Cost structure (choose one):

    • In person assessment with individualized behavior plan $275

    • Zoom assessment with individualized behavior plan $225

    • In person assessment with summary $195

    • Zoom assessment with recording $165

Please note, the summary may contain some of the recommendations but is not a complete plan. This document may be necessary if another trainer will be implementing the hands on work.

HANDS-ON TRAINING & BEHAVIOR WORK - In some cases, the dog may need additional work sessions to improve their situations. We can offer training and behavior follow-up sessions for shelters, rescues, and other organizations at a reduced rate if the dog is either in a foster home, or waiting to be relinquished to a rescue. (Once the dog is adopted, please see our Adoption Transition Support page.)

  • Cost

    • Work session $125/hr

RESCUE & SHELTER SUPPORT FOR DOGS IN A HOME FOR MORE THAN 3 MONTHS - Training and  behavior work for dogs that have been adopted and been in the home for more than 3 months (90 days) would be considered a pet dog. The Complete Consult - Certified Behavior Consulting rates would apply.  It is most  likely that the owner would be responsible for the fee for service and/or the organization may want to cover a part of the cost. We will be happy to work with organizations on a case-by-case basis.
